Shrub shaping, hedge work and tree limbing done on the right calendar — so plants stay healthy instead of just getting shorter.
Pruning is the service people put off longest and regret most. Shrubs get leggy and hollow in the middle, hedges lose their line, and low limbs start scraping the roof and blocking light to the lawn underneath.
The fix isn’t just cutting things back. It’s cutting the right things at the right time of year, because timing determines whether a plant comes back fuller or comes back stressed.
We prune for structure, not just size. That means thinning to let light and air into the interior so the plant fills back in rather than becoming a shell of green over bare sticks. Hedges get cut to a consistent line with a slightly wider base so the bottom keeps getting sunlight.
Raising low limbs off the roof, the drive and the lawn, and taking out deadwood before it comes down on its own. We handle limbing on ornamental and mid-size trees — for large removals or anything near power lines we’ll refer you to a certified arborist rather than take a job we shouldn’t.
Spring bloomers get pruned after they flower. Summer bloomers get pruned in late winter. Cutting on the wrong calendar is how people accidentally remove a whole season of blooms — we time it so you don’t.
Questions
Depends on the plant. Spring bloomers like lilac and forsythia get pruned right after they flower. Summer bloomers and most evergreens are best in late winter or early spring while dormant. We time it by plant rather than by whatever week we happen to be there.
Most formal hedges want two to three trims a season to hold a crisp line. Informal shrubs are usually fine with once a year.
Always. Everything gets hauled off site and the beds and hard surfaces get blown clean before we leave.
Often we can bring it back — sometimes over two or three seasons of staged renewal pruning rather than one hard cut that would shock it. If it’s genuinely past saving, we’ll say so instead of charging you to prune something that should come out.
